Happy Halloween!
Learning Target
Students will be able to analyze models that illustrate materials cycles and discover how human activities are disrupting the carbon cycle.
Success Criteria
Standards
HS-LS2-7.
Design, evaluate, and refine a solution for reducing the impacts of human activities on the environment and biodiversity
Reminders
Tutoring today after 9th in A-301.
Part 1:
Warm-Up
Something Looks Sus
(One of Many is Incorrect)
(10 min)
.
Part 2
Turn n' Talk
Review
What are the four spheres of Earth?
What materials cycle through the spheres?
Part 3
Start Wide Then Divide
Explicit Instruction
(15 min)
Directions:
Today, we are going to practice breaking down (dissecting) a material cycle diagram. I will show you how an expert attacks these questions.
As I explain, no questions and no note taking!

Part 4
Get the Gist
(15 min)
Lets learn more about how burning fossil fuels can have an impact on the planet.
Concluding Question
How does burning fossil fuels negatively impact the biodiversity of our ecosystems?
Part 5:
Stop n' Jot
Take-Away
(5 min)
Key concept: Climate Change:
Causes: Releasing greenhouse gases into the air when burning fossil fuels. Deforestation also causes climate change because trees absorb CO2 and also release it when cut down.
Consequence: Rising sea levels, extreme weather events, overall increase in global temperatures, decrease in biodiversity (many other consequences too)
