Menstrual Cycle Phases: The menstrual cycle consists of four main phases—menstrual phase, follicular phase, ovulation, and luteal phase—each regulated by different hormone levels.
Hormonal Regulation: The cycle is controlled by the interaction of four key hormones: estrogen, progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
Role of Hormones:
FSH promotes follicle growth in the ovaries.
LH triggers ovulation.
Estrogen thickens the uterine lining.
Progesterone maintains the uterine lining for possible pregnancy.
Uterine Lining Changes: The endometrium thickens during the cycle in preparation for pregnancy and is shed if the egg is not fertilized.
Menstruation: The shedding of the uterine lining, causing menstrual bleeding.
Ovulation: The release of an egg from the ovary.
Progesterone: A hormone that prepares the uterus for a potential pregnancy.
Estrogen: A hormone that controls the menstrual cycle and aids in thickening the uterine lining.
Uterus: A muscular organ where a fertilized egg can implant and develop.
